Dee's Story

Dee Burton Concrete Stamped Service

In February of 1950, Glenn Dee Burton was born in Clinton, Oklahoma. Within six months, he and his family—his parents, four brothers, and four sisters—moved to Woodville, California. Growing up in California, Dee learned the ropes of construction working alongside his brothers, primarily in concrete pouring.

In 1975, Dee began working for a licensed concrete contractor named Hal Teller. When Teller’s foreman failed to show up on “pour day,” Dee took the initiative and completed the job himself, pouring eight yards of sidewalk on his own. When Teller arrived and saw Dee handling the job alone, he was impressed. Upon learning that the other workers had not shown up, Teller decided to make Dee his “right-hand man.” Within a few months, Dee’s dedication to reliability, honesty, and hard work was clear.

In 1978, after Dee earned his California Contractor’s License, Teller decided to retire and passed on his business number to Dee, which included all of his clients and contacts. This marked the beginning of Dee’s own venture—Dee Burton Concrete.

Over the years in California, Dee completed a remarkable amount of concrete work for numerous towns, including Ceres, Modesto, Riverbank, and Turlock. His work included pouring foundations for well-known businesses like Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Hershey’s, Carl’s Jr., and Long John Silver’s. He was also responsible for pouring all the concrete for the Memorial Hospital in Modesto. Dee worked with several cities to pour sidewalks, ramps, curbs, and other projects. Additionally, he and his brother Vic were responsible for pouring concrete at multiple 84 Lumber Company locations in the central part of the state. Throughout this time, Dee had all of his children—Michael, Jeff, Crystal, Sandy, Sherry, and Billy—working with him. On occasion, his nephews also pitched in. Dee Burton Concrete has been a family-owned business ever since.

In 1992, Dee and his wife Sunnie moved to the West Plains area of Missouri with their youngest child. There, Dee expanded his horizons and built a variety of businesses, including house rentals, a concrete company, a restaurant, a laundromat, a U-Haul rental service, and an equipment rental store, Dee Burton Contractor Supply and Rental. During this time, Dee also contributed to the community, participating in the chamber of commerce, serving on the fire department’s board of directors,

and being an active member of the Gideons, passing out New Testament Bibles. In 1996, Dee and Sunnie returned to California, where the concrete business picked up right where it left off.

In May 2005, Dee and Sunnie relocated to the Harrah/Choctaw area of Oklahoma, with plans to “semi-retire.” However, after Sunnie passed the Oklahoma State License Board and earned her real estate license, Dee’s name continued to be recommended for concrete work. One job in Del City turned into ten more, and those ten turned into even more. In 2011, Dee’s 14-year-old grandson Tyler moved in with him. Tyler learned Dee’s core values, earned his trust, and mastered the craft. In 2023, Dee and Tyler became official business partners, and despite his “semi-retirement,” Dee is still in business to this day.

Tyler's Story

Born in February of 1997 in Turlock, CA, Tyler’s early years were marked by life-threatening challenges. As an infant, he contracted RSV and spent a week in the NICU. At two years old, he was struck by a vehicle, resulting in a three-week hospital stay. When he was seven, his appendix ruptured, quickly leading to a dangerous infection. Miraculously recovering from each of these events, Tyler also experienced his parents’ separation.

In August 2005, Tyler’s mother, newly divorced, took him and his two older brothers and moved with his grandparents to Harrah, OK. After his brothers graduated, Tyler and his mother relocated to Hartshorne, OK. At the age of 12, Tyler gave his life to Christ and felt a calling to ministry.

Tyler Burton Family

Tyler grew close to his grandpa during these years. In the summer of 2011, Tyler moved in with Dee and Sunnie. Dee made it clear to Tyler: “You’re not gonna sit around and do nothing. You’re gonna go to work.” Although initially indifferent about working in the concrete field, Tyler enjoyed spending time with his grandpa. Over the years, Dee instilled in Tyler the value of hard work and the importance of taking pride in his work—lessons that shaped Tyler’s character.

While Tyler’s heart was set on pursuing ministry, he continued to learn the concrete trade, working earnestly and with integrity. As time went on, Dee began to entrust Tyler with more responsibility on the job sites, only appearing when needed to help or deliver materials.

After graduating from Harrah High School in 2015, Tyler moved to Baton Rouge, LA, to attend World Evangelism Bible College,

where he earned his Certificate of Theology.

In 2016, Tyler married his wife, and the couple moved back to Oklahoma, where they now have three daughters. Tyler resumed working with his grandpa, Dee, as if he had never left.

That same year, Tyler and his family began attending Friendship P.H. Church in Oklahoma City, where he began his ministry journey. Since 2017, Tyler and his wife have served joyfully as youth pastors at Friendship Church. Tyler developed a deep appreciation for the challenges and rewards of the concrete business. In 2022, he earned his Oklahoma City ROW license and ADA Certificate. Dee Burton Concrete, built on integrity, honesty, hard work, and dedication, remains a strong foundation of Tyler’s career. Tyler’s vision is to carry forward the legacy his grandfather created and take the family business to new heights.
